If you’ve been reading So Chic Life for awhile you may already know I went gluten-free by hormone imbalance and adrenal fatigue, I’ve realized along the way that my body is not a fan of gluten.
While I don’t have celiac disease, I adhere to a gluten-free diet 99.9% of the time because it helps me feel better and stay on track eating primarily whole foods like vegetables, lean proteins, fruit and healthy fats.
For the most part my daughters eat the same way but it’s not like gluten is totally off limits for them. I just serve it sparingly and try to find snacks that are better choices and gluten-free.
With two busy kids constantly on-the-go, it’s not always easy to find snacks that are gluten-free beyond fruits and veggies. This has always been a challenge for our family. Packaged snacks are usually where gluten can sneak it’s way into your life. {PS – if you want to know what I’m carrying in that cute backpack, be sure to check out my Fall Trends with CBS Chicago segment.}
You may have seen my previous posts about Oatmeal Banana Smoothie bowl, but I’ve got some exciting news. Beginning this fall, goodnessknows snack squares is announcing that its three flavors are now gluten free.
Another thing I try to pay attention to for snack foods is the sugar content and total calories. Each bar is 150 calories divided into four perfectly portioned squares (each two-bite square is about 40 calories), containing 100 mg of naturally occurring cocoa flavanols and 12 grams of sugar. My goal is never more than 10-12 grams of sugar in a serving size.
Filled with good items like whole nuts, real fruit, toasted oats, dark chocolate AND no artificial colors, flavors or sweetners, going gluten free is just another small step goodnessknows snack squares is taking to go from good to great!
Be sure to look for new product packaging marked with “gluten free” on the label.
