Trying new cooking year round is one of my passions, but when summer kicks in, it’s so long oven and hello grill. Grilling outdoors resonates fond memories, it’s where I spent a great deal of time with my dad growing up. He’s a grill master and taught me how to prepare almost every type of meat including wild game.
During college and throughout my single days, I always owned a portable grill.
Nothing too fancy or complicated, but it did provide the opportunity to experiment with different marinades and master steak and chicken on my own. Do you know how difficult it is to not overcook chicken on the grill??
To celebrate National Griillng Month we’re teaming up with Mediterranean oils into your diet.
If the grill has been deemed the “man’s” appliance in your backyard, ladies it’s time to take it back. With a little practice and following a few grilling tips, you’ll be the talk of the neighborhood.
Grilling Tips:
- Invest in a grill meat thermometer. It’s the best way to prevent overcooking, especially chicken.
- Marinate meat using a high smoke point oil like Pompeian Grapeseed Oil or Pompeians’ OlivExtra Mediterranean Blend. The higher smoke point and unique flavor combination of this innovative blend make it ideal for everything from salads to grilling marinades.
- Experiment with different marinades. It’s fun to explore a variety of spices and taste how each compliments chicken, beef and seafood.
- Spray the grill with oil (prior to lighting) and pre-heat for a 15-25 minutes. Never leave a grill unattended. I know everyone does it but you never know if leftover grease and/or food can catch on fire.
- Turn the meat only once! You heard me flippers. Let it cook on one side (depending on the thickness will determine how long) and THEN flip to the other side. Here’s a cool marinating and grilling chart for poultry, meat, seafood and tofu.
