You Sassy readers are so cool.
I wasn’t sure how you’d respond to my 9 beauty uses for coconut oil post, but it got some great feedback. So today I’m going to share another item I borrow from the kitchen and incorporate into my beauty routines – honey.
Yup, honey. Organic raw honey is really amazing. It’s naturally antibacterial, moisturizing, clarifying, and full of antioxidants! I don’t even think you can find that in many facial treatments!
Honey works well by itself, but it also combines nicely with other items from the kitchen.
To help fight off oily skin, because apparently pimples last way past high school, mix together 1 banana, 1 teaspoon honey, and a squeeze of lemon juice. Apply to a clean face and leave on for about 15 minutes. Use warm water and a washcloth to remove.
For dry skin, mix together 1/2 an avocado with 1/4 cup of honey. Apply to a clean face. Wipe off with warm water and a washcloth after about 15 minutes.
To minimize your pores, mix 1 egg with 1 teaspoon of honey. Have fun applying – it’s kind of gross – and leave on for about 15 minutes. Rinse off with warm water.
These masks are about as easy as it gets! My kids saw me concocting them and wanted in on the process. I ended up putting the ingredients for each face mask into plastic baggies. We then squished the baggies until everything was mixed up. Besides for the kids having fun, I was able to store the masks easily in the fridge until I/we were ready to use them.
Side note – while I didn’t mind putting the honey/avocado and honey/banana on their cute little faces, I was not about to put the egg mixture on their skin. With our luck they’d probably lick each others’ faces and get Salmonella.
So what do you think, Sassy friends? Is a honey mask something that you will or have tried? Let me know in the comments!

I love these mask ideas! I just started buying some fresh face masks from LUSH, but they are about $7 each so they can really add up. I have a container of honey at home that I’ve never even opened, so now I’ve got a great use for it!! 🙂 Thanks for posting these recipes!
