April is sharing 8 statement nails that you must try!
I’ve been seeing all these adorable 20-somethings sporting super cute manicures. And while I know doing full-fledged nail art on all ten fingers might not be the best idea, I’m not going to let my age or job stop me from having a little fun.
Have you heard of the statement nail? Basically it’s a regular paint job with one or two fingers painted in a fun way. These 8 statements are my favorites. They are trendy yet appropriate for a mom or professional like myself. But just to clarify – I wouldn’t paint all my nails this way. Instead, I’d choose one solid color to paint my nails, then either do my ring fingers or pointer fingers with a statement design.
The 8 that I show here are really easy to copy. I love them too because they are flexible enough to work with any color nail polish. If you need to keep your nails more conservative for work purposes, stick with neutral colors. I’m showing my statements here using orange, nude, gold, and black – I just like how the colors look. But really, the possibilities are endless.
Interested in trying out one of these nail designs? Here’s what you’ll need:
- Designs 1 and 3 use the end of a paper clip to make the extra details. See here for instructions on creating the animal print pattern.
- Designs 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8 use tape to help create the lines. I used packaging tape this time, but I’ve also used regular scotch tape. The key here is to have your base coat completely dry, then apply the tape, paint with statement color, and let that dry well! If you don’t give the nail polish enough time to dry, you could end up with a wonky design.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the statement nail! Have you tried it out? Which one of these designs could you see yourself wearing?

I am a huge fan of accent nails myself – I was so psyched when I discovered the trend a few years ago. I love that mixing nail polish looks on different nails is “allowed” now 😉
