I love NBC’s Parks and Recreation and I’ve followed Amy Poehler’s career since her days on Saturday Night Live. I really love her hair too. Maybe it’s a blond thing. Whatever it is, Sassy Moms in the City wanted to know – how does she and the cast get such sassy hair??
Celebrity hairstylist Terrie V. Owen, the on set stylist for the hit NBC TV series Parks and Recreation, shares her product picks and tips for how she gets Amy Poehler, Rashida Jones and Rob Lowe camera ready.
Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope
For Amy Poehler, I start with deep conditioned hair. I put a lot of stress and heat on the hair daily so deep conditioning is essential. Then, I prep with a styling spray. I use White Sands Liquid Texture Thermal Styling Spray Soft Hold when I need the waves and curls to stand up to long shooting days on set. I use a large barrel marcel curling iron to make soft waves, just by wrapping the hair around each section and spraying with more White Sands Liquid Texture. I finish with a very light, light mist of finishing spray so her waves have movement.
Rashida Jones as Ann Perkins
For Rashida Jones, I prep with a heat protectant, which is a must for color treated hair. Then, I set her hair on a 1 ¾ inch ceramic curling iron. Before I set each section, I spray (on dry hair) some White Sands Liquid Texture Thermal Styling Spray in soft hold. White Sands makes the waves last all day! Then I style with finishing cream by Rahua.
Rob Lowe as Chris Traeger
Rob has a short, choppy, naughty schoolboy cut that I blow out just with my fingers. I prep the hair with White Sands Liquid Texture Thermal Styling Spray Firm. It’s great for baby fine and straight hair since it gives texture and hold that stands up to hot lighting conditions on set. I then put a texturizing cream for a messy look. I use Sally Hershberger Wreck and Roll Cream.
Purchase White Sands via Fine Salons & Parks & Recreation airs on NBC tonight and every Thursday night at 9:30/8:30 pm CST.
