Oh the joys of building a home. Things are moving right along. The structure is up – there are roughed-in walls. And a roof. So here’s where we are. Not the greatest photo but you get the idea.
Now comes the fun part – designing and making the house our home.
To be honest the decision making process was a bit overwhelming so we hired an interior designer who just happens to be my future neighbor. Very excited about this arrangement. How lucky to have someone living so close to help us manage the process.
Recently we had to start thinking about the front door. Have you ever considered what your dream door would look like? I know what I DIDN’T want, however making an actual decision is more difficult than expected. It’s just a door – right?
Then I started thinking….The front door is the first impression your home makes past the driveway. In my experience, driveways aren’t always that memorable. Based on the distance from the street to our garage, I’m pretty sure no one will be gushing over what type of cement we pour.
Shouldn’t the front door make a statement? Ok maybe I’m overthinking this, but it’s the first real design decision we’re making. I need to get this right.
Our builder uses Simpson Door Company and sent me their website to peruse. Now comes the fun part – searching their online photo gallery for front door inspiration!
The Bungalow Series was love at first sight. I love everything about this door- the dental shelf molding, large glass panes, curved detail and bead board paneling. It’s classic but has charm and character.
The Simpson 7444 in Walnut, also part of the Bungalow series is beautiful. I love the dark stain that coordinates with the stairwell. We’re building a Nantucket style home so this design works perfectly.
This door is also from the Bungalow series {7228} painted rather than stained and there are six window panes rather than four large. Another great look. How adorable is this mudroom??
Simpson Door Nantucket Series has the same great design but rather than bead board, you’ll notice the shaker panels and face-driven pins (those two dots at each corner). It’s a great look too.
Last but not least I am loving the French and Sash Door series which offers more windows to maximize the view of outdoors. As much as I loved this look it’s probably more suited as a back door based on the foot traffic we have in our neighborhood.
If you really love the look of more windows but not sure about privacy, Simpson has a variety of textured glass options for all their doors. You can even take their online Glass Test and try out which type of glass gives the look and privacy level preferred.
This has been so helpful! I tried several door styles with different glass combinations.
What’s your favorite front door inspiration?
