It was a big day for the girls! With Christmas money plus savings from their piggy bank, they excitedly negotiated to purchase the American Girl of the Year 2015 – Grace Thomas, an avid baker with big ideas and drive to start her own business.
As part of their Christmas gift we had lunch last week at American Girl thinking it was the “BIG DAY”. Sadly, Girl of the Year was only announced on GMA and wouldn’t officially arrive until January 1st in stores.
After convincing Dad they are capable of sharing Grace (this remains to be seen) and take turns playing with her, off they went to American Girl Place on Michigan Ave. Of course Kit had to come along to greet her!
Returning home, the girls were so excited to share Grace Thomas with all of you, they begged to take a video of the unboxing.

Available for only one year, Grace is a beautiful 18-inch doll with her very own charm bracelet, dressed in trendy grey boots and chic sparkly graphic t-shirt and includes the book Grace by Mary Casanova.
I have to admit she’s pretty cute. And of course the Parisian flair adds to her mystique. I love that Grace has as entrepreneurial spirit.
Grace Thomas’ story…
This enthusiastic girl loves to bake with friends and invent new recipes. Then a trip to Paris inspires her to try new things—including turning her passion for baking into a business. Will she learn the best way to succeed?
Wanting to inspire girls even further, American Girl has created For Goodness, Bake!–a nationwide bake sale sponsored by American Girl and No Kid Hungry, you can help all kids in America get the food they need. The money raised will help connect kids to meals, cooking classses, and more.
American Girl Doll fans can also take advantage of the Grace Sweet Shop Paid App where Grace has big summer plans to start a business with friends until Mom announces there’s other business to attend to—in France! Play Grace Sweet Bites to mix, roll, bake, and decorate French pastries just like Grace.
Impress customers by preparing tarts, éclairs, macarons, and more. You can even invent fresh-from-the-oven goodies in free-play mode. The more you play, the more in-game recipes, achievements, and tiny treat recipes you’ll unlock.
My girls are even more excited about the full-length movie based on Grace’s stories that will debut on DVD from Universal Studios Home Entertainment later in 2015.
