What’s the buzz on The Truly Me Dolls? Truly Me, replacing the original collection called My American Girl, allows your daughter to select a new friend through a variety of personalized doll options, including 40 different combinations of eye color, hair color and style, and skin color, and choose from an array of outfits and accessories. Each Truly Me doll now comes with a Me-and-My Doll Activity Set, featuring over four dozen creative ideas for girls to do with their dolls, and an all-new Truly Me digital play experience that’s free and accessible to girls when they visit www.americangirl.com/play.
The best way to experience American Girl is with a complimentary personal shopper. Tracey was assigned to us the evening of the event and went above and beyond to make the girls feel special, guiding them through the selection process and taking the time to show the dolls for a final inspection to be sure they were ok with their decision.
The idea is to choose a doll that has similar features, however the girls were more focused on selecting a doll based on hair style. My youngest chose a doll with brown eyes #24 and the oldest decided on the doll that was new to the collection #27. While they may not be true look a like, they were definitely smitten.
The wow factor of the night was experiencing the newly launched The American Girl Truly Me Signature Studio available at the flagship locations: Chicago, New York and LA. If you’re familiar with the Chicago store, this replaced the portrait studio on the first floor.
This took me and the girls completely by surprise. What is more fun than designing your own outfit and accessories?
Using innovative printing technology, the Truly Me Signature Studio lets girls create one-of-a-kind doll outfits from endless design possibilities. Choosing from a variety of colors, patterns, silhouettes, prints, and embellishments, girls can design a custom doll outfit or doll carrier on a hand-held tablet, which is then transferred to the studio’s high-tech printer and produced for the girl in just minutes.
Using iPads, the girls both chose to design a pair of pajamas and backpack for their new Truly Me dolls. I wasn’t sure what to expect considering it was being printed on demand, however the quality was great and looked identical to the digital version.

While production time may vary based on how busy the store during your visit, the staff does an excellent job of managing the process. My recommendation is to contact a complimentary personal shopper to help schedule your meals, hair salon and Truly Me Signature Studio Experiences. I am taking my daughter on a surprise trip to Chicago on July 27th and just learned of this amazing experience (the Digital Studio) and I am trying to plan time and budget for our adventure! 🙂 I’m curious as to the pricing of this experience!
