Each week I share a Paleo bloggers. Many of you know that my reason for incorporating Paleo was for health purposes- issues I was having with my thyroid, weight management and insomnia. As much as I believe in the Paleo lifestyle, I’ve come to realize that my problem could stem from an unhealthy gut.
It’s unfortunate that Paleo gets a bad wrap (named one of the worst diets of 2013), but following a plan of no processed sugar, flour, gluten, etc can only lead you in the right direction of healthy living. It’s also unfortunate that eating this way has not resulted in weight loss – I’m either fighting to maintain or struggling to lose 10 pounds.
At the moment I’m doing whatever possible to shed 10 pounds that suddenly appeared and I’m not sure when. What am I doing wrong??
This week while shopping at Whole Foods, I decided to purchase Kimberly Synder’s new book – The Beauty Detox Foods. I’ve followed her blog for years but never put much effort into maintaining her food guidelines – reducing or eliminate animal protein and incorporating probiotic foods and digestive enzymes.
But I’m Paleo – we love MEAT!!! What I began to notice recently is that I crave meat. Just as I would pasta, bread and crackers. Interesting….
Taking a closer look at my Paleo meal plans and what I’m consuming throughout the day, there’s still a significant amount of vegetables and probiotic foods missing. Not because I’m Paleo (which has opened up a world of vegetable recipes), but because I’m not making a priority.
Kimberly’s philosophy makes sense and reducing animal protein is the only thing I haven’t tried. Another thing I haven’t really put much effort into? Gut health.
For the past four days I have not consumed meat, excluding last night I had salmon dining out. While this may not be appealing to everyone, I’d like to invite you to share this journey as I focus on detoxing the gut this week. You may be surprised to see Quinoa and black beans which are not considered Paleo. Hopefully you’ll be inspired and try it with me.
Stay tuned for a full review of The Beauty Detox Foods coming soon!
