Follow me on Instagram and you may have noticed occasionally I share the benefits of using essential oils.
UPDATE 2016: Since I began using essentials oils in 2014, a great deal has changed with how I can communicate that to you per the FDA. I am no longer able to share the brand name or any product photos here. If you are interested in the brand I personally use or have more questions please feel free to email me, comment below.
I’ve used essential oils topically for several years, primarily to help with hair care. After baby #2 it’s never been the same. Rosemary, lavender and Jojoba are natural oils known to stimulate hair growth. These oils were purchased from Whole Foods and seemed to work well.
After seeing a friend who represents a brand of high quality, therapeutic grade of essentials oils post her natural health remedies on Facebook that could be ingested, it sparked my interest even further. {Only take oils internally that are labeled for personal consumption with a Supplement Facts guide on the bottle. Oils purchased from retail outlets are not considered safe to take internally.}
I eliminated toxic household cleaners from our home seven years ago, if there was a way to incorporate supports an even healthier wellness lifestyle, I’m all for it.
It’s important to know that essential oils aren’t a gimmick, a trend or some old wives’ tale.
The history of oils dates back centuries and were used for therapeutic purposes and religious rituals. Hello – the wise men did bring baby Jesus Frankincense and Myrrh! Wounded solders in World War II were treated successfully with essential oils. Today many medical facilities are studying and bringing back the use of oils to aid in treating Lyme disease.
Just one drop of essential oils contains hundreds of unique compounds offering powerful chemistry that can fight many different diseases – NATURALLY. Oils don’t just treat symptom, they work at the cellular level, immediately reactive to the body.
Did you know pharmaceutical drugs and over the counter medicines originated from the study of the active medicinal properties of plants? Drug companies studied the plant compounds and were able to synthetically recreate some then included fillers, additives and modifications. Unfortunately, the modifications and fillers are foreign to our body and can have negative side effects.
Getting started with using essential oils can be overwhelming unless you have a little guidance. When I first began my journey I started with the basics purchasing a family starter kit that contained Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Tee Tree, Oregano, Frankincense and several proprietary blends by the brand I use.
Over the past two years, I’ve implemented essential oils for occasional sleeplessness, head and neck tension and supporting our family’s immune system. We apply topically, diffuse and ingest using veggies capsules.
One vital thing to know about essential oils….
Not all essential oils are created equally. In fact, most of them are worthless to your health and often synthetic. When buying essential oils make sure they are certified therapeutic grade.

Is there any sort of class offered on essential oils as it relates to babies and how to safely use them? Maybe a beginner basics…
Alison Ray says
Hi Andrea – where do you live? I can find out in my do terra group for you. Also here is a great website on how to use for babies: http://beyondessential.com/doterra-essential-oils-for-babies-children/

Thanks, that would be great! I’m in Lincoln Park/Old Town. I belong to several moms groups in the area and can see if anyone else would be interested in learning as well. In the meantime, I’ll check out the info you sent. Thank you for checking and the resource.

I’ve been using Young Living essential oils, and I’m not having as much success as you are. The lemon/lavender/peppermint – did you take that internally? MY daughter has really bad allergies, and I have use it topically as well as diffusing it and she didn’t feel that it helped. Maybe I need to make capsules. Thanks for sharing this info. My hair has never been the same after my daughter either, and it is FINALLY growing back (she is EIGHT!!!) I wish I’d known about the oils then.
Alison Ray says
Yes capsules are the way to go. Ingesting the oils is supposed to be more powerful than just topical. I don’t know too much about Young Living but I know you can ingest doterra and the oils must be certified not just unadulterated. I’m going to start sharing more about what works for us but you should definitely get veggie capsules.

Hi there. I’m new into EO’s and was reading your recipes for Z-pack. Should I put all of those oils in a veg capsule by themselves and seal it up, then take, or should they go in or with something else?
Thanks!
Alison Ray says
The Z pak is meant to be ingested but you MUST only use oils by Doterra or ones that are similar grade. What you get at Whole Foods are not the same. You can get the veg capsules at health food stores. Happy to answer any questions on EO’s for you!

when making the sudafed, do I rub the mixture on my face?
Alison Ray says
Hi Kim – you add oils to a veggie capsule and injest but you must use certain oils that are meant for this.
Alison says
What if you don’t have capsules to put the oils in? Can you put in water?
Alison Ray says
Hi Alison – The best way to ingest multiple oils at the same time is to use the veggie capsules which can be easily purchased on Amazon or Whole Foods. You can ingest oils in water but some are very strong and don’t taste that great. I put the citrus oils in water everyday but some that are stronger don’t go down as easy. Let me know if I can help in any way with your oil needs.

I am very interested in using the oils. ..I don’t know much of anything about them, but it seems to be very popular.
My husband deals with back pain, high cholesterol and high BP,I have foot pain, that can almost be unbearable at times, and we both need help with weight loss …Will it help any of our problems?
Alison Ray says
Hi Leisa – I’m no doctor and your issues definitely require medical attention. I do think essential oils could help supplement but first I would make an appointment with an integrative medical doctor and naturopathic doctor too. Once you have your symptoms evaluated and tests run then incorporating oils could help these issues. All the best and please let me know if you need any additional information.
