Today’s Best of Beauty we’re talking about Botox. I’ve been getting injections off and on for about 3 -4 years, maybe longer. This post in no way suggests you should get Botox, it’s simply about sharing my personal experience. When it comes to cosmetic procedures you can never be too careful. Always consult your doctor as there are people who are not appropriate candidates.
That’s why I wanted to interview a dermatology expert and ask the questions that so many of my friends are asking me. Why would you do Botox? Is it safe? How do you find someone who is reliable?
You might be wondering why in the world I would consider injecting myself with botulism. I get that many people object to most cosmetic procedures (especially Botox), however it’s something I chose to do and have done so cautiously. I take exceptional care of my skin, use sunscreen, stay out of the sun, take vitamins, drink tons of water…..
But none of these things stop the muscles in my forehead from going to town every time I raise my eyes, laugh, smile or speak. Even my mother told me to stop moving my forehead so much, it was giving me too many wrinkles.
I remember vividly my “first time”. Convinced it would be painful, I made my best friend accompany me to hold my hand. Turns out it is NOT painful. The doctor sensing my concern took baby steps and administered only 12 units. I later found out that this is a very, very small amount.
It took about two weeks to “set in” and the lines in my forehead dissipated. The only side affect was realizing that when my forehead does not move it accentuates my Ptosis (medical term for a drooping eyelid), which by the way is hereditary. At some point there’s an eye lift in my future because it could affect my vision.
I’ve been due for a Botox session for several months and decided to wait until after the summer. The lines in my forehead were driving me crazy! A few weeks ago I was at my plastic surgeons office having a few suspicious moles removed and met Sandra Witten their new PA-C and Dermatology expert.
Sandra specializes in providing “natural-looking” cosmetic dermatology and was named the “Best Lip Injector” by Envy magazine, for her natural looking lip augmentation. We immediately hit it off because she’s a mom, our kids are the same age and a beauty junkie (like me).
After learning about Sandra’s knowledge and expertise on injections, I had to interview her immediately.
Our interview is broken down in two video clips. The first video Sandra answers questions about Botox emphasizing safety. The second is the actual procedure just in case you’re curious.
