I’ve been dealing with hormone imbalance issues for six very long years. It’s beyond frustrating and no doctor seems to be able to resolve my issue. Thankfully I been able to find hormone balance with essential oils. But it was a long road to get here.
A few years ago I was prescribed Wellbutrin to control what I could only describe as anxiety. Deep down I know it was hormonal but Western doctors would only prescribe anti depressants and integrative medical doctors recommended progesterone cream. I was insistent on NOT taking a SSRI so Wellabutrin was the only alternative.
After taking Wellbutrin for two years, I wasn’t sure if it was working and I was tired of exposing my body to medication that was potentially unnecessary. My naturopathic doctor ran a neurotransmitter test that evaluates GABA, Serotonin and Dopamine levels.
When the results came back my dopamine was extremely high and we knew that the Wellbutrin was not working. My doctor agreed and recommended I stop taking the prescription and move to a natural supplement.
If you are considering taking ANY type of anti depressant or your doctor is pushing pharmacetuials as treatment (yes they do push), demand a neurotransmitter test. I’m no doctor but I can tell you from my personal experience that anti-depressants are prescribed much too frequently without testing serotonin or dopamine levels.
This is what the test results look like…
In no way am I suggesting people don’t need these drugs because many do, but it’s not joke to mess with your neurotransmitters. Many SSRI have serious side effects and at the end of the day your symptoms could be hormone related.
Signs you have hormone imbalance:
I have about every sympton on this list and no doctor can seem to find a solution based on every test available. Being overly frustrated I decided along with my doctor’s permission to wean off Wellbutrin and began a daily essential oil regimen.
It’s important to educate yourself about essential oils as there are so many on the market. Therapeutic grade oils are important as not all oils are created equally. So far I’ve had success and don’t miss Wellbutrin at all.
Whenever I feel anxious or stressed I apply a calming topical blend of Clary Sage, Lavender, Bergamot, Roman Chamomile, Cedarwood, Ylang Ylang, Geranium, Fennel, Carrot Seed, Palmarosa, and Vitex to my temples, feet and back of the neck.
I’m passionate about sharing my hormone journey with others but I’m still searching to find a solutions. Essential oils have helped tremendously and allowed me to avoid putting synthetic medication in my body.
