Are you a carnivore? We eat grass-fed steak a few times a month but I’m obsessed with how my meat is seasoned. It’s imperative to have the perfect homemade steak rub.
For years I always marinated steaks in Worcestershire Sauce. Hey I’m a southern girl that’s how we roll. At some point I switched to a steak rub using salt, pepper, garlic powder and butter.
Things took a change of course when my cousin Ben came to visit a few years ago and whipped up the most incredible meal of grilled steaks and veggies.
When he asked me for cumin and paprika I was a little nervous. After spending a small fortune on the best NY strips available at Whole Foods, can you blame me? With a culinary background, he’s a pro so I kept my mouth shut and hoped for the best.
The results were MIND BLOWN!! This was the best steak I’d ever put in my mouth. It was the cumin! It brings out the most incredible flavor of the meat. I wish I could describe this better but trust me, it’s unlike any steak rub you’ve had.
Forget the store bought stuff….You’ll never need anything other than these four spices for preparing steak ever again.
How to make Homemade Steak Rub
Ingredients
- Paprika
- Cumin
- Kosher Salt
- Pepper
Directions
Sprinkle each spice separately to lightly coat one side of meat. Repeat on the opposite side coating all areas of steak (top, bottom, sides).
I usually eyeball each spice and don’t bother measuring. Go easy on salt, pepper and cumin. These can easily overpower the meat if not careful.
Throw the steaks on the grill, 5-8 minutes per side depending on thickness.
