This is my makeup basket. It is a mess. Stuffed with products I don’t even use and items that aren’t even cosmetics – it’s definitely time for a cleaning!
I used to keep my makeup in a drawer, but I found that using a basket was much more convenient for me. Why? It’s portable! I tend to use a mirror in the house that has the best lighting for makeup application. So depending on the amount of sunshine on any given day, I have three prime spots that I love.
I find it best to just start by dumping everything out. Then I begin by sifting through stuff just like I would clean out my closet. Anything broken either gets fixed right away, or tossed out. Broken eye shadows and compacts do nothing but make messes!
Here’s a way that you can fix them with rubbing alcohol. Things that I use all the time, get wiped down and put back into the basket. If there is something that I got but haven’t used, I’ll pass it on to a friend who might enjoy it. I only keep the things that I love and use. Clutter is no ones friend.
Before I put my makeup brushes back, I clean them too. In fact, I try to clean my brushes once a week. Makeup brushes can easily get cleaned with warm water and a mild soap. I prefer to use baby shampoo.
Just a few things to consider when washing your brushes; you’ll have to keep changing the water until it stays clear, don’t put the whole brush underwater – just the bristles, and dry the brushes by keeping them on a slant with the handle higher than the bristles.
Now doesn’t that look much better?! Everything is clean and organized. And I only have the cosmetics that I love and use everyday.
So, Sassy reader, how do you organize your cosmetics? When was the last time you cleaned up your stash?

Your messy makeup basket pales in comparison to mine! Really!!! Thank you the tips. I normally use shampoo to clean my brushes but will definitely try baby shampoo next time!

I don’t clean my brushes as nearly as much as I’m suppose to, but I know how important it is. Thanks for sharing! Visiting you through the beauty buzz linky!
