Don’t we all aspire to a perfect selfie – or at least come close to rocking a selfie like Kim Kardashian? #lifegoals
Hold on to your camera phones – now anyone can take a beautiful, flattering and well lit photo- aka a perfect selfie with the Lumee phone case.
Ok so maybe your life goal is NOT to publish a book of selfies but you can’t tell me the desire to accomplish a somewhat decent photo with your kids, husband or friends isn’t appealing when the opportunity presents itself. Friends don’t let friends take bad selfies.
But for the record the current status of my iPhone Selfie folder is at 200 photos that will NEVER see the light of day and are far from being social media worthy.
Let’s talk lighting. We all know that the secret to a flattering photo (camera or cell phone) is all about the quality and position of lighting. The problem with the everyday selfie photo is the front lens on your camera phone doesn’t have a flash (unless you own the latest iPhone 6s). Using the front camera with a flash usually makes us look washed out and creates the horrible creepy red eye. No thanks.
Thanks to the Lumee smartphone case now almost every selfie photo becomes publish worthy. The secret is based on the small LED lights that run down the right and left side of a heavy duty case allowing the light to distribute in the most flattering way. Whether you are holding the phone down, up or straight on – your face is illuminated with a perfect glow.
But the proof is in the pudding. See for yourself with a few examples. We took these images at NIU Convocation Center during a recent cheer competition using the selfie lens. As you can see the existing lighting is terrible on it’s own.
After reviewing these photos I’m starting to think one should never leave home without the Lumee!
Big difference don’t you think?
I’ve noticed the Lumme case works much better in a really dark environment with no additional lighting or in moderate lighting with some other source of top or back lighting. The photo below was taken in the salon bathroom (doesn’t everyone take selfies there?) with overhead can lighting and using the primary lens on the back of the phone.
I snapped this one in my entryway using the selfie camera with no additional lighting and you can see how the image is grainy. Even after wiping off the lens to be sure all was ok I couldn’t get the photo balanced enough to be post worthy.
My cousin (she introduced me to the Lumee over Christmas) and I snapped this one with the selfie camera standing in my kitchen with overhead and cabinet lighting in full force. Obviously the quality is much better.
If you take a closer look at all of the example images the one that has the best quality was taken in very low lighting indoors. This was the case no matter which camera (front or back) was used.
What makes the Lumee Phone Case Unique?
There are other lighting devices on the market like the Mini Spotlight which both attach to the top of the phone (without a case).
While I have no experience with these products (receiving good reviews on Amazon), I can’t imagine these are as convenient as using an illuminated case that stays adhered to the phone at all times.
I love that the Lumee case is very lightweight even though it’s made of extremely durable plastic it doesnt weigh down my phone. It’s much thicker than most plastic cases on the market. The case will stay lit at full power for up to two hours. At the lowest brightness, about 36 hours.
But the best part is that it will protect your phone should you drop it.
I’ve tested this by accident on one occasion by dropping my iPhone 6 in the garage from a seated position in my car and thankfully the phone screen survived. The company also stands by that it will protect your phone on their website.
The Lumee goes beyond the selfie. Another bonus is using the case when other people are taking photos. See in the photo below – my cousin held up the case while I took a selfie on my phone. You can also do this standing behind or beside the person taking a group shot. That works well too.
And get this-you can even dim the lights!
For all my fellow selfie enthusiasts the Lumee smartphone case is just what you’ve been looking for and it makes a great gift (hello Valentine’s Day) or just something to treat yourself. For $54 including shipping you too can have the perfect selfie photo so get snapping.
Purchase Lumee here – available for the iPhone in various chic colors (like Rose Gold) and the Samsung Galaxy 6.
