It’s January the month of resolutions and organization. Our family purges a few times per year, primarily because we can’t handle clutter and city living provides us with limited closet and storage space. Like most kids, my girls grow out of clothes pretty quickly or end up wearing the same outfits over and over. This means we have gently worn clothing sitting in the closet taking up valuable real estate.
I’m pretty diligent about taking care of any designer pieces so these can be consigned for cash. My girls and hubs know to check garments for stains before dropping into the hamper and we don’t dry anything that could fade or shrink.
Normally I take our clothing to a local consignment store which provides payment once someone purchases my items and the only way to know what is sold is to request a report from the owner. To collect payment you drive back to the store. It’s not a terrible system but a little time consuming.
That’s why I’m excited to tell you about Moxie Jean, an upscale resale shop where busy moms send their stylish baby and kids clothing to make money. Moxie Jean buys like-new clothing, from newborn to size eight, helping moms pass their gently used items on to another family. In addition to reselling, you can purchase gently used upscale clothing for a fraction of what it would cost new.
Today I cleaned out the girl’s closet and found several great items to resale from Ralph Lauren, Levi’s Baby Gap and Carter’s. I also found a raincoat with the tags still on it that I forgot to return months ago.
Check out our Moxie Jean closet clean out experience and see what type of clothing you should be looking for in your closet.
After checking each piece for tears, stains or visible wearing, I placed everything in a HUGE prepaid shipping bag and dropped off at my local UPS store. (NOTE: it is not required to drop your Moxie Jean bag at any shipping location as the USPS will pick up at your doorstep. We live in a self managed building in the city so all packages we ship must be taken to UPS or Fed Ex location.)
Once Moxie Jean receives my items, they inspect carefully to ensure the clothing meets their extremely high standards, process within a few days and then send an email confirming the amount of Moxie Money earned. I’ll accept in my choice of cash, store credit or a donation to patients at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. How easy is that??

NOTE – Moxie Jean currently DOES NOT accept the following:
- Jumping Beans, Circo, Garanimals or Gerber
- Winter coats, hats, scarves or mittens (light jackets are okay).
- Clothing featuring small sports teams, local towns, activities or tourist attractions that would not have appeal to a broad audience.
- Swim wear, shoes, homemade items
- Clothing that smells like smoke. If we open the bag and it seems to be smokey, we will not process the contents but recycle them.
