Can we all just take a moment and agree that while we love American Girl Doll, the clothing can quickly get out of hand and unorganized? I’m not sure when or how it happened but somehow these dolls have more clothes than I do!
American Girl Doll Clothes Organization Solution
Nothing a little help from Pinterest can’t solve. It’s no surprise searching “American Girl Doll clothes organization” resulted in a plethora of ideas – some simple, some a little too ambitious for me.
The other challenge was finding an organizing solution that the girls can keep up with on their own. I needed it to be easy for a 4 and 6 year old. Otherwise I would be the one keeping up with this chaos.
This idea from Serenity Now Blog was my first pick for organizing doll shoes which I loved, but it required purchasing the hanging jewelry bag. It was time to be resourceful and look for a solution using what we have at home.
My spin on organizing doll shoes was to repurpose an empty first aid kit container {like this or this} that’s been around since L was a baby. Based on our current collection of doll shoes, this works.
Considering the number of doll shoes continually entering our home, switching to the hanging jewelry bag is in our very near future. It truly is the best organization solution when it comes to keeping up with tiny shoes.
Now what about all those doll clothes and accessories? My mom had given the girls a doll wardrobe armoire for hanging clothes, but it was filled to the max.
Serenity Now Blog’s other solution for doll clothing was under the bed storage.
How adorable is that bin?? She found that one at Marshall’s, but after searching online, looking at Home Goods and Marshall’s, I decided to use something we already owned -a medium plastic bin with a lid {another option here} that is shallow enough to slid under the girl’s twin bed.
At first it wasn’t really working (do not recommend using an open bin without sections). Again trying to be resourceful, I took two kid’s shoe boxes and a medium shirt box to organize by item – accessories, under garments, misc clothes and pajamas. Perfect!
The plastic bin is now home to the excess doll clothes. One would think we were organizing for a real live person. So far my pinspiration is working well.
