One of my biggest regrets was NOT learning a second language. I’ve always wanted to speak French and Italian but never seemed to be able to master either. Trust me I’ve tried…
Spanish wasn’t included in my educational curriculum until middle school. By then it seemed almost impossible to understand and comprehend. Once I began my career traveling the world, I enrolled in an Italian class at a local college but was quickly frustrated. Out of five students, I was the only person that only spoke one language. Although it was an introductory level, the professor taught at the level of my classmates.
I promised myself when and if I ever had children, they would be exposed to multiple languages immediately. Over the course of six years we’ve joined mom and tot French classes, hired a French nanny, Spanish speaking babysitters and attended many multilingual activity classes. When it was time to enroll in school, we chose a program that provided Spanish classes starting in Pre-K 3.
Our school’s program is hosted by Language Stars, one of the leading foreign language programs for children in Chicago. They recently contacted me to spread the word about their open house events for parents interested in learning more about their program between July 29 and August 17 at their 15 centers across Chicago.
