Shapewear leggings are a girl’s best friend. Can I can an AMEN?? But not all leggings are created equally. That’s right, you heard me. If you haven’t had the pleasure of owning a pair, allow me to introduce the ingenious shapewear leggings.
What makes shapewear leggings so wonderful? They go above and beyond the average legging by sliming you from the waist down. The material is generally thicker and can be worn as pants, under a dress or skirt.
I first discovered SPANX Look-at-Me Leggings three years ago and it was life changing. My daily mom uniform after baby number two became leggings with tunic tops or sweaters. While I own many different pairs of leggings, Look-at-Me leggings have been the most versatile and beyond slimming – especially around the tummy, tushy and hips.

Hitting Bloomie’s last week, the Yummie Tummie Lydia Faux Python Leggings immediately caught my attention. Hello snakeskin leggings – I had to have them! The ladies warned me these were similar but fit a little differently than my beloved SPANX, but I was willing to give it a try. Just call it sassy research.

I’m truly in love with the fabric and the look of the Lydia Legging – it’s soft, trendy, edgy, goes well with sweaters, tunics, skirts, etc. There are a few things that bother me. The tummy panel is not as snug, is wide and hits at the waist. You can tell by the photo above it’s reminiscent of a maternity panel. The scratchy tags are somewhat annoying (Spanx are seamless) and the Lydia is not as slimming (aka I don’t look as skinny). The price point is similar, $68 retail.
SPANX Look-at-Me Leggings
SPANX Look at Me Leggings are completely opaque, have no tags and a super comfortable high waist that does a great job of staying in place. These make me feel instantly slimmer and smooth out the hips and thigh areas. $72 may seem a little pricey for leggings but you will definitely get your money’s worth. I wear mine almost daily.
So who does a better shapewear legging – Spanx or Yummie Tummie? If you’re looking for a legging that can serve as an everyday staple and be worn with almost anything, go with SPANX.
