Exposing the girls to the arts and live The SpongeBob Musical at Chicago’s Oriental Theater. You guys it is one of the best musicals I’ve seen in years.
We laughed, clapped and woo hoo’d throughout the entire show. If standing up and dancing in the aisles was permitted we would have done that too.
I know virtually nothing about the Nickelodeon show and my kids rarely watch. I wasn’t sure what to expect when it came to the characters or costumes but Ethan Slater kills it as SpongeBob SquarePants.
From his voice to his walk, he captured the essence of SpongeBob SquarePants in every capacity while wearing a simple costume of plaid shorts, yellow sweater vest, tie and bright yellow hair. Let me repeat there are no actors in faux yellow sponge costumes.
The premise of The SpongeBob Musical is saving Bikini Bottom residents from the impending doom of a volcanic eruption threatening to destroy all the inhabitants (characters} and their undersea world.
When you have composers like David Bowie, John Legend, Cyndi Lauper, T.I., Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, The Plain White T’s — even and Brian Eno the plot really becomes irrelevant. It’s all about the music!!
The colorful stage will blow your mind. Just look at this!
The SpongeBob Musical is the most lively, colorful, energetic, positive and entertaining shows that everyone will love. Take your entire family or friends. {But hurry because it leaves Chicago July 10th!}
One of the most fun productions that concluded with the entire audience giving a standing ovation, The SpongeBob Musical did not disappoint. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen an entire audience stand at the end of a show.
I’m waiting patiently for The Spongebob Musical songs on iTunes. In the meantime I’ll be listening to my daughter sing “Bikini Bottom Day” in her best French accent.
