No matter how you feel about sporty sandals, last year it was a hot trend that’s making a comeback. Personally I’ve been in love with the Birkenstock Gizeh for years and replaced my last pair with these. {Don’t knock it’ till ya try it}.
What makes sporty sandals so appealing is the thicker footbed and cushy arch support. I pretty much live in Birks all summer. If it were up to me I’d go barefoot, but that’s not really socially acceptable {or sanitary}. Right?
Last year sporty sandals were spotted all over the runway and designers like Marc Jacobs, Eileen Fisher, Kate Spade and Marni got in on the action. The chunkiness of the heel and thickness of the footbed seems to have scaled back making this summer’s collections much more attractive, lighter and feminine.
Birkenstock Gizeh. It has the openness of a flip flop but a wider footbed and supportive arch.
I love a classic wedge and strappy stilettos as much as the next girl, but when it comes to a daily uniform, I need a sandal to throw on that’s comfortable and practical. Comfort is key but I also want to look stylish.
This season there are tons of chic sporty sandals from almost every designer like Kork-Ease.
The trick to pulling off the sporty sandal trend is to go for metallics or an interesting pattern like snakeskin. Stay away from the clunky options that scream grandma’s orthopedics. This is not what I’m talking about.
Not only will your feet thank you for the extra footbed cushion, a sporty sandal can be worn with boyfriend jeans, cropped pants, shorts and midi skirts. You can dress up and down, day or night. Here are my favorite selections.
