I like Alison Sweeney. For starters she’s a working mom and openly admits her struggle to keep off the baby weight. She acknowledges her access to the best trainers and nutritionists but is eager to share the advice, tips and tricks she has learned.
I was anxious to be inspired while traveling with husband last month to San Juan. Who wants to think about dieting on vacation? Someone who is looking for motivation, that’s who.
Boy was I wrong. The Mommy Diet is not a “how to” diet book or just for first time moms. It is a great guide focusing on fitness, diet and overall health. Whether you are considering getting pregnant, expecting a baby, post baby or need a kick start program like me, The Mommy Diet offers something for every stage of mommyhood.
Each chapter has the same format covering fitness, food, fashion, self-care and romance. Yes, romance! Packed with easy tips and attainable recommendations to get fit and healthy, The Mommy Diet is a great read. It’s like receiving advice from a close girlfriend which inspired me to come back for more.
Alison gives us a sneak peek into her “mommy diet” experience by providing sample workout and meal plans, music playlists, mocktail recipes, fashion tips and reminders to keep the romance going during every stage along the way.
My favorite chapter is the Shape-Up Week. The goal is to jump start your metabolism by committing to working out every single day and cutting out all sugar, alcohol, meat, preservatives, dairy and caffeine for one week. Sounds intense but makes perfect sense. Ask any personal trainer or just watch one episode of The Biggest Loser. It takes this type of commitment even if for a short period of time to see rapid results. Alison recognizes this may be challenging especially for new moms, but the payoff is well worth the sacrifice. She is very upfront and reminds us (aka moms) to ask for help by recruiting friends or family members to watch the baby for a few hours.
It’s been almost two years since my last child was born and I still have several more pounds I would like to drop. Saying “I just had a baby” is long gone and I’ve run out of excuses other than I just haven’t made myself a priority. The Mommy Diet has truly inspired and motivated me to put a plan together and follow many of Alison’s practical recommendations.
The Mommy Diet is a great guide and must read for all moms and moms-to- be and the perfect shower or Mother’s Day gift! Be sure to stop by Alison’s websiteTwitter.
