I’m sure you’ve heard about the New York Post’s article that went viral yesterday about wealthy New York moms allegedly hiring disabled people to cut lines at Disney? The article mentions ONE family who admitted hiring a Dream Tours guide who has an autoimmune disease and uses a scooter. The guide used her handicap status to obtain a Guest Assistance Card (GAC) that allows her and the family she was escorting to go through a separate entrance and bypass the 1-2 hour lines for the 2 min rides.
Somehow this turned into renting handicap people??
People – big NEWS FLASH you don’t need a handicap person or to be handicapped to obtain a GAC. We just returned from Disney over Spring break and learned how to obtain the pass without being in a wheelchair, scooter or showing any signs of disability. Yes, Disney is nice like that.
Back to that article. Is it wrong to offer sell your handicap status to help people cut lines – heck yes. And is it even worse that a family purposefully allegedly hired a guide to use their handicap status? H to the L yes. BUT this hardly equates to the richie riches renting disabled people.
If you ask me the New York Post article is total BS and just another example of the media twisting the “facts” and creating shock journalism. It worked right? Got your attention and resulted in massive amounts of rebuttal posts by bloggers and editors everywhere. Look I’m doing it now.
Reminds me of another shocking article that went viral a few weeks ago about moms attending conferences aka the Mommy Business Trip. Excuse me while I take a nap from boredom.
Back to Disney. What’s really unfortunate about all of this is the fact that people are forced to wait 1- 2 hours to ride Pirates of the Caribbean, Space Mountain, Peter Pan and It’s a Small World. Yes, that’s how long the lines were during Spring break. It’s no wonder people are taking crazy measures and finding ways to beat the system.
But hey, if you’re an ethical person you just hire Disney’s VIP guides because skipping lines in this manner is more acceptable and not morally corrupt, right?
If Disney is supposed to be the happiest place on Earth, why can’t they figure out a way to prevent guests from waiting so long to enjoy 2 minutes of excitement? I guess they have, you just have to pay for it.
