It seems everywhere you turn {design shows, online and magazines}, farmhouse inspiration dominates home design trends. You can find almost any type of decor or home accessory from mirrors to side tables and artwork to lighting and even interior doors that resonates farmhouse chic.
There are many ways to incorporate the farmhouse trend, but not everyone wants this style as a dominant theme throughout an entire home. The easiest way to add farmhouse inspiration without going overboard is selecting a smaller space such as a powder room, guest bathroom and/or guest bedroom.
The style of our new home is more transitional so bringing in a rustic element needed to be simple (nothing over the top) but definitely a wow factor.
The perfect spot in our home turned out to be the guest bathroom and adjacent bedroom. The goal was to design a space with a modern twist {aka Farmhouse Chic}.
Farmhouse Inspiration Ideas
When you think of farmhouse does the vision of country, rustic or industrial come to mind? As much as I love this contemporary rustic bathroom, it was a little too vintage for our taste. But how cool are these vintage inspired faucets, sink and metal walls?
Another very cool option that gave me some great ideas – especially the tile floors – was this industrial and eclectic farmhouse powder room. Check out that cabinet hardware that looks like little branches! I love the idea of tiling a wall to look like barn wood in smaller spaces. But let’s have a moment for that wood countertop!
A favorite inspiration was this Pottery Barn bathroom, mixing and combining metals between the faucet, mirror, sconces and vanity hardware. Bronze hardware may seem like the obvious choice for a farmhouse bathroom but that’s a finish usually reserved for more traditional looks.
Take a look at this beautiful transitional vanity is a winner.
Shiplap, barn wood ceiling and trim paired with marble? Now this my kind of farmhouse bathroom! Rustic yet elegant – gorgeous!
Nothing says farmhouse chic like a barn door. Finding a bathroom inspiration photo where the barn door is used as the entry, I was sold. This is the foundation that really sealed the deal for our farmhouse bathroom inspiration.
If you look closely there is a reflection of an antler chandler and wood tiles behind the tub. I also loved the brick pattern of tile work. Obsessed!!
With so many ideas, now it was time to lay out all my design wishes on a mood board. I do this easily using Pages on my Macbook Air by taking screenshots of the items, then dragging on to the page.
By the time the mood board came together, our bathroom faucets were selected (we chose chrome finish 100% based on budget). It was nerve racking going with chrome knowing that the lights I really wanted would have a bronze finish. Fingers crossed this would all work out….

Seeing my vision on the mood board was exciting. It was at this point I realized the most important feature that would pull the farmhouse bathroom together was the interior barn door.
But not just any door would work. First and foremost it had to be an authentic barn door created from reclaimed barn wood and a customize size (more on that later).
Thanks to Houzz, I was able to connect with Big Sky Barn Doors and the rest is history. If you’re in the market for a one-of-kind interior barn door, you have to check out this company based in Montana. Each sliding barn door is handcrafted from reclaimed barn wood across Montana.
Here’s a peek but I’ll be sharing more about our farmhouse bathroom and the beautiful entry door from Big Sky Barn Doors soon. Can’t wait to show you how it turned out.
