For so many years glowing skin was something I tried to attain, investing in far too many products and expensive facial treatments. You name it I’ve most likely tried it – microdermabrasion, chemical peels, lasers, etc. No matter how much I was willing to spend, my skin remained dull, dry and dehydrated.
In addition to facial oils, I used supplements to increase potency. About facial oils and potency products can be found on this website https://concernedhealthny.org/generic-viagra/.
It wasn’t until I discovered facial oils {and a few at home skincare treatments} that glowing skin become a reality and the key element missing from my skincare routine. I’ve tested a ton of clean beauty products and different type of oils to identify which work best for me. It may take a bit of trial and error as everyone’s skin is different, the results are worth it!
To achieve great results and glowing skin after 40 {and at any age}, using avoid products with harsh ingredients is key. I love that the clean beauty industry has exploded over the past few years but it’s become just as confusing as navigating main stream brands.
Reading labels is so important!! Unfortunately there are far too many brands capitalizing on this new beauty category, proclaiming natural, organic, clean, etc but still use preservatives and ingredients that are harmful. It’s one of the reasons I prefer smaller companies that create products in small batches {shorter shelf live and less preservatives required} or I make my own.
Let’s dive into my daily natural skincare routine….
It’s easier than you think to achieve glowing skin after 40.
If you’re here because you’re curious about or recently purchased my Glow Serum the following instructions are key to obtaining the best results.
Evening Skincare Routine:
Step 1: Cleanse
If you haven’t tried cleansing balms and facial oil cleansers – get ready to change your skin! OMG forget the soap friends – removing makeup never felt so luxurious. I started with transitioning away from soap based cleansers with Crunchy Betty Exquisite Stuff and fell in love. My particular skin doesn’t seem to mind any type of oil but you tend to break out or get clogged pores, probably best to stay away from coconut oil based cleansers until you see how it goes.
This is a great video tutorial by Britta Plug, that shows how to oil cleanse. Britta is one of my favorite holistic estheticians – follow her on Instagram @Britta_Beauty. It takes a minute to get comfortable with oil cleansing especially if you depend on soap/lather to remove makeup. I promise oil cleansing is so worth it and eventually you won’t miss the lather.
I’ve had great results with these facial oils and cleansing balms that range between $10-$20 with the exception of Beauty Counter:
- Crunchy Betty Exquisite Stuff Cleansing Oil {the first product I tried and still use}
- CocoKind Facial Cleansing Oil {my tween daughter uses this and loves it}
- SheaMoisture Makeup Melting Cleansing Balm {this works well with my skin but the base is coconut oil}
- Beauty Counter Cleansing Balm (expensive but it does work well)
- MyChelle Perfect C Cleansing Oil {alternative with cleansing balms/oils usually at night}
- DIY Honey Facial Cleanser {I rotate this with cleansing balms}
- Currently testing CLN & DRTY’s Rose Oil Cleansing Balm and Exfoliating Rose Cleansing Stick
Step 2: Tone
Toning is a great way to provide ph balance to the skin but a step I skipped for sooo long. I finally realized it wasn’t the toner but alcohol that was drying out my skin. It’s important to find a gentle soap-free cleanser and alcohol-free toner that won’t strip your skin of vital nutrients and natural oils.
My favorite PM toner is a DIY Apple Cider Vinegar Toner {ACV, Witch Hazel Extract, Aloe, Lemon and Tea Tree Essential Oil}. Message me if you’d like my recipe! If you’re not into DIY, S.W. Basics Liquid Oil Control Facial Toner is a great option with Apple Cider Vinegar. I save this one for evening.
Step 3: Exfoliate
Here’s the reality of aging….the need to exfoliate more regularly and frequently is more important than it was in our 20s and 30s because skin cell turnover happens slower than in earlier decades. Ugh not great but what can we do? I secretly still use prescription strength Retinol products on occasion. But the products below are my go-to for clean exfoliants and they work well.
- Mad Hippie Exfoliating Serum
- Beauty Counter Overnight Resurfacing Peel
- 100% Pure Multi-Vitamin + Antioxidants Potent PM Serum
- True Botanicals Antioxidant Booster
Step 4: Moisturize
At night I use 100% oil around my eyes and can’t believe how much it’s reduced the fine lines. Message me if you want to know the secret oil.
Roll Glow Serum {Organic Rosehip Oil, Blue Tansy, Copaiba, Francinsense Essential Oils} around eyes (outside -not too close), mouth, nose, forehead and neck. Gently rub into skin with clean fingers. Serum appears blue on skin but disappears once absorbed.
Message me if you’d like to try it. I’ll ship it to you roller ball for $25. ***Extra points for applying Glow Serum with a Jade Roller {see below}!
Morning Skincare Routine:
Step 1: Cleanse
Facial oil cleanser/balm {noted above}
Step 2: Tone
DIY Balancing Toner {RoseWater mixed with Aloe Vera and a few drops of essential oils} but if you’re not into DIY, try these…
Step 3: Vitamin C Serum
Vitamin C serum is a must for anti-aging. If you’re not already doing this please start ASAP! It helps with preventing hyperpigmentation, protect against free-radical damage, helps with the production of collagen and protects skin from precancerous changes caused by UV exposure. This is a great article detailing Vitamin C benefits for skin. It references great brands but these are NOT clean. They work (I’ve tried them years ago} but the following brands/products are what I’ve been using that are just as effective and much safer.
Step 4: Moisturize
A great eye cream is EVERYTHING!! Avoid oil based eye creams for daytime. I love Mad Hippie Eye Cream and Acure Radically Rejuvenating Eye Cream, both are hydrating but sheer enough to work well with cosmetics.
***Glow Serum {as noted above}. Your skin will be glowy but not appear greasy once SPF and makeup are applied. Try to avoid getting close to the eye area and use a setting powder to prevent mascara from smudging.
Step 5: SPF
Not to be skipped especially when using a Vitamin C serum! I’ve tried many clean SPF brands and it can be challenging because most leave a white tint. The goal is to use a daily SPF that are at least 20 or higher, free of parabens, phthalates, and other toxic ingredients and meant for daily use.
- MyChelle Liquid Tint SPF 50 Nude- Oil-Free {Thin enough to use as a primer. My all time fav for several years!}
- ACURE Radically Rejuvenating SPF 30 Day Cream {purchased for my hubs because it blends into skin really well}
- Suntegrity Tinted Sunscreen/Beauty Benefit (BB) cream {love this one too}
That’s it my friends! This entire routine should take not more than 5 minutes.
But let’s be honest…topical treatments are only half the battle when it comes to anti aging. The following are the real secret weapons to anti-aging and glowing skin after 40.
Chic Tips for Glowing Skin After 40:
- Consume 64 ounces of water per day {sorry but ya gotta stay hydrated and drink water!}
- 8 hours of sleep per night
- Consume collagen protein powder daily {20 grams}
- Weekly Masks
- No soda
- No processed food {only on occasion and followed with digestive enzymes}
- No dairy {maybe 1-2 times per month}
- Limit alcohol {if I do drink it’s usually vodka and water with lime or organic wine}
- Limit caffeine {sorry no coffee! I drink Dandelion/Chicory Root Lattes or Matcha Lattes with Collagen Protein}
- Use Natural Deodorant and Skincare Products (my favs here)
- Micro Needling 1-2 times per month {I use this tool}
- Jade Rolling 3-4 times a week {I use this}
- Micro Blading once a week {I use this or have it done professionally}
- Breakouts are treated with my favorite essential oil for healthy skin

Hello! Just found you and so excited to catch up on all your posts!
Can you inform me where you purchase your rollers from and since they are not sterile, how do you disinfect prior to making your glow blend? Thank you so much!!!!

I’ve had good luck with this aloe https://amzn.to/2Toh8Vn.

The rollers are linked on the post. I soak them in rubbing alcohol for a few minutes to sterilize. Hope that helps!
